Telehealth can enhance the patient-clinician relationship, decrease healthcare costs, and improve access to timely intervention that may otherwise be unavailable.

This training will give learners a greater understanding of telehealth and how telehealth technology can streamline collaborative care to enhance communication, equity, and safety. With the guidance contained within this training, learners will be better equipped to provide services utilizing a telehealth format.

  Module Descriptions

To ensure comprehensive care and efficient use of technology in telehealth services, the following learning objectives are essential:

1.      Telehealth Technology: Integrating telemedicine into clinical practice requires careful consideration of electronic health records, telehealth solutions, interoperability, and alignment with healthcare systems. This module will cover telehealth modalities and patient-owned devices.

2.      Communication and Safety: Effective telehealth communication is essential for patient-centered care. This module outlines best practices for healthcare communication and its adaptation to telehealth.

3.      Assessment/Physical Exam: Telehealth allows for assessing visual cues like facial expressions, skin conditions, and irregularities. Key considerations include lighting, patient-owned devices, and generated data for thorough assessment. This module demonstrates modified physical assessments via telehealth.

4.      Access and Equity: Certain patient populations face challenges in accessing healthcare, especially in underserved areas. The closure of hospitals and clinics has lasting effects on their health outcomes. Achieving healthcare equity involves removing barriers to ensure access to resources. This module will explore how telehealth can address these barriers.

5.      Ethical Considerations: Understanding the ethical challenges and professional requirements in telehealth involves examining the fundamental ethical principles: respect for autonomy, beneficence, justice, and non-maleficence. It's essential to recognize the scope and limitations of telehealth for patient safety, standard of care, and patient well-being. This module explores key ethical considerations and professional requirements when delivering telehealth services.
