Full course description
Welcome!
Thank you for joining us!
We are incredibly pleased to bring you this program. Caring for patients who have experienced a sexual assault requires specialized training. In the State of Missouri, a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) may not be available at the bedside to provide services. This training provides cSANEs with a greater understanding of the needs of patients in remote locations who have been sexually assaulted or abused while improving the overall care and exam process. With the guidance contained within this training, cSANEs will be better equipped to provide services utilizing a telehealth format in the same trauma-informed, patient-centered manner that drives their standard nursing practice.

Description, Purpose, and Learning Outcomes
To ensure comprehensive care and efficient use of technology in telehealth services for sexual assault survivors, the following learning objectives are essential:
1. Systematic Preparation for Telehealth Sessions on TeleDoc Platform: This involves creating a private, secure, and comfortable environment. Healthcare providers must be adept at setting up both the physical space and digital platform, ensuring equipment functionality, introducing themselves appropriately, obtaining patient consent, and engaging in effective communication. This includes being observant of signs of discomfort in patients, all in compliance with HIPAA and the State of Missouri guidelines.
2. Navigating and Utilizing TeleDoc Software and Missouri SAFEvT Network: Healthcare providers must seamlessly navigate the TeleDoc software and SAFEvT network. Skills include logging in, accessing appropriate care locations, initiating private sessions, adhering to patient consent protocols, troubleshooting technical issues, and knowing when and how to seek technical support.
3. Proficiency in Operating JedMed Horus Scopes: Understanding the operation of the JedMed Horus Scopes is crucial. This includes powering on, connecting to the TeleDoc tablet, switching camera views, capturing and reviewing images, and adjusting camera settings. This knowledge is vital for guiding satellite staff through examinations to ensure accurate and thorough documentation of injuries.
4. Conducting Effective Pre-Briefs with Satellite Team Members: Pre-briefs with satellite team members are critical for fostering teamwork. This involves facilitating introductions, assessing team members' comfort and experience with the SAFEvT network and sexual assault forensic exams, and ensuring the team is well-prepared.
5. Adaptability and Responsiveness During SAFEvT Exams: Demonstrating adaptability and responsiveness is key. Providers must be flexible based on satellite staff feedback and provide respectful and empowering support, which enhances the quality of care while accommodating the varying capabilities of satellite staff.
These objectives aim to equip healthcare providers with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively support sexual assault survivors through telehealth services, ensuring their care is respectful, thorough, and in line with professional and legal standards.
